Finding new music can be a difficult task sometimes. It takes time, and a lot of sifting through what we like and what we don't. When looking for new music you may ask your friends for playlists or CD's, but this isn't always a reliable method. I find myself trying to find new music by using search engines or YouTube, which can be very time consuming.
I'd like to introduce a website to those who find themselves in a music rut. The website is called Songza.
Songza has many categories to choose playlists from. They track the day of the week and current time to suggest playlists based on common activities during that time. Playlists could be studying, making dinner, dancing, partying, working out, unwinding, ect...

If you would prefer to search by artist or genre though, there's an option for that too. When you search an artist a playlist is created compromised of songs that are similar to whoever you searched. The songs are continually generated and as you listen to them you can thumbs up or thumbs down them. If you thumbs down, then the song skips and the playlist won't generate any more songs similar to it. If you thumbs up, then Songza keeps track of this and it will play more songs similar to the one you liked. As you continue to like more songs and playlists, Songza will be able to recommend more music based on those likes. If you do decide to skip a song, you can do so more often than a similar site, 8tracks, which only allows you to skip a song once per hour.
Comparatively, I find that Songza has a better system of finding playlists that are more suited to my tastes. I find myself skipping the songs less frequently with this website. The best part about this website is that you can search an artist and just let the website generate a playlist based on that artist. It keeps the playlist along one set genre with minor differences between the artists and songs it picks. I love the fact that I can choose a playlist and just let it run without having to change the song very often. This is especially great for studying and driving. Driving even more so because you're not distracted by changing the playlist or song. There's nothing worse than being stuck in traffic listening to a bad song on the radio. The smart phone app makes it much easier to choose music on the go. If you find yourself without any playlists ready, like myself, then you're sure to find Songza very helpful.
The site also allows you to browse popular playlists if you don't have an activity or an artist in mind. You can choose top playlists that are currently trending, trending this week or trending this year.
If you would like to create your own playlist and share it with others, there's an option to do that as well. Just create an account and you'll be able to start creating some playlists. This is another great way to share music more efficiently. Just create a playlist and send the link to your friends. This way they will be able to access your playlist anytime.
Songza can...
- Help you find new music
- Supply you with several playlists
- Help you share music with others
- Generate playlists based on your specific likes and dislikes
And it's completely free to use!
So check it out and keep yourself musically entertained no matter the occasion!
