Dancing for me no longer was about winning the awards or getting the highest score or even hearing other people critique me, it was about being me and letting everything else go. People can experience this with any sport it doesn't have to be just dancing; you can always express yourself in whatever it is you are doing.
So, I decided to share a dance that I did with you all that touches very close to my heart. This is a solo I did my last year of dad for my dad. My dad was diagnosed with cancer now 11 years ago and I am happy to say he is a survivor. I chose to do this dance for him because it was an emotion I wanted to share with others and the only way I truly knew how was through my dancing. It didn't matter what other people thought of the dance or what mark I got at competitions, it was a special dance for me and all those who know my dad.

Wow Caitlyn, that is really inspiring that you have such a powerful outlet for hardships like that. My family has gone through a similar situation, and I have to say that when I was twelve and visiting my father in the hospital everyday, it would have been a wonderful thing to have something such as dancing to get my energy and emotions out. Especially when it is something you love doing, those things seem to have a 'happy place' feeling about them, am I right?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was going through that my outlet was always riding my bike. It was a good way to get my energy out and get away from everyone and just focus on something else for a moment.
I am glad to hear that your dad is doing well, and I hope that the things we love doing will always get us through those hard times.
(Just to let you know, when I try watching the video Youtube tells me it's private... )
So sorry about the video not working! I didn't realize I had to change the settings so it should work now. Let me know if there are another other issues!

Wow Caitlyn, this was a very touching post! You are such a strong person and having to go through that must have been so hard for you. I just wanted to say that you should continue to do what you are doing because like you mention, dance is not always about the competition and awards, it is mostly about the meaning, emotions, and thought behind the whole performance that matters most.
ReplyDeleteEven though I do not know your dad, I am glad to hear that he is doing well!
